New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is not helping individuals who are committing federal crimes evade ICE.  

In the video uploaded across multiple social media accounts on October 23, 2026, Mamdani informs undocumented individuals of their constitutionally protected rights. These include not allowing ICE to enter their private property without a judicial warrant and the right to remain silent.

Simply being undocumented in the United States does not mean someone is committing a federal crime, as this is generally a civil offense.

As of July 11, 2026, about 70% of those held in ICE custody have no criminal conviction, according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University.
