Protesters at Mamdani Oct. 7 Vigil Were Not Islamists
Claim
Fact
There is no evidence that the protestors who showed up to an October 7th vigil to protest New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s involvement were motivated by Islamist ideology.
While attending a candlelight vigil for the victims of the October 7 attacks in Union Square, around 100 pro-Palestinian protestors heckled and booed the mayor. Protestors yelled at Mamdani, calling him a “coward” and “traitor,” and accusing him of betraying the Palestinian cause, but there is no evidence that there were any threats against the mayor.
Mamdani responded to the protests the next day, reiterating that he was proud to attend the vigil, while also pointing out the over 74,000 Palestinians killed in the past three years in what he called a genocide.
