Undocumented individuals did not kill 13,000 Americans in 2024 and are not responsible for most homicides in the United States. 

The 13,000 number spans 40 years and comes from a letter written by ICE in 2024 that noted the total number of individuals convicted of homicide who were no longer in their custody, many of whom were serving prison time.  

Research from the Cato Institute and a study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences suggest that U.S.-born individuals commit homicide at higher rates than undocumented individuals.
